Background
My background is mainly in the commercial sector where I qualified as a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA). The usual finance directorships came my way including in a multi-academy trust and in a large corporate, and I was in my comfort zone. However, that is a dangerous place as it breeds complacency and so I started my own practice with a focus on business improvement and shareholder value.
If you are an independent entrepreneur you will not need to to explain the appeal of being solely responsible for your own success.
My toolbox
As an FCCA I have extensive experience of helping businesses to prepare and interpret financial statements. But numbers telling you about the current position are not enough; you need someone who can help improve those figures as you move forward. As a Lean Six Sigma practitioner, this is another area where I can add value. Lean Six Sigma techniques aim to identify inefficiencies and waste, reduce costs, improve revenues and free up capital so that you can drive the business forward. If you have not been involved in a successful Lean Six Sigma program, ask me about it. When delivered properly it can generate huge improvements.
This leads on to the importance of good HR processes. HR is key because the successful implementation of sustainable improvements is usually reliant on people with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience. And the necessary levels of engagement, which is so often overlooked. As a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development I am well placed to help clients develop this type of workforce.
Finally, there are the tools and techniques I use on a variety of other projects. I keep those close to my chest but please get in touch for a confidential discussion if you have a project that requires total discretion. One such client says that choosing me was "the best business decision we ever made." I would be delighted to have the chance to win the same plaudit from you.
